A Lance Armstrong movie is officially under development at Working Title. Deadline reports that Stephen Frears, who directed Helen Mirren in the Oscar-winning pic "The Queen", has been tapped to serve behind the lens for the biopic about the fallen hero, from his cancer ordeal to the doping scandal that got him banned from cycling for life.
As soon as Frears has been attached, a potential leading man is the next to be approached. The site additionally learns that Ben Foster, who starred in Brett Ratner's "X-Men: The Last Stand", is "already in final talks" to headline the pic, which will be penned by "Trainspotting" scribe John Hodge.
The project is the latest one that tries to retell the life story of Armstrong. There are currently two other same-subject movies under development. Warner Bros. has been working on its own version with director Jay Roach and writer Scott Z. Burns.
Meanwhile, at Paramount Pictures, J.J. Abrams has been tapped to produce the adaption of Juliet Macur's "Cycle of Lies: The Fall of Lance Armstrong". Bradley Cooper is linked to the project, but there has been no official word on whether he jumps aboard or not.
Foster will next be seen in "Kill Your Darlings" and "Ain't Them Bodies Saints", which both got premiered at Sundance.
