"Tulip Fever" movie is confirmed to be finally under development at The Weinstein Company. After Miramax failed to bring the feature version of Deborah Moggach's novel to big screens, TWC now snatches the project and reportedly prepares it as a starring vehicle for Alicia Vikander, best known for her role as Caroline Mathilde in "A Royal Affair".

Daily Mail, which broke the news first, learns that the Swedish actress is "in the final stages of negotiations" to play leading character Sophia, who has a romantic liaison with a talented artist hired by her rich husband to paint her portrait. "Rust and Bone" actor Matthias Schoenaerts is reportedly sought to portray the lover.

Back in 2003, the Miramax feature adaptation was initially set with then-rising star Keira Knightley as Sophie and Jude Law, who acted alongside Vikander in "Anna Karenina", as the artist. However, the production was later canceled due to a tax credit deal.

Now, Harvey Weinstein will take charge of the project as co-producer along with Alison Owen. "The Other Boleyn Girl" director Justin Chadwick has been secured to helm the pic. No start date has been set yet.

Vikander is currently filming "Hotell" for director/writer Lisa Langseth. She will next be seen in "The Fifth Estate", which also stars Benedict Cumberbatch and Stanley Tucci.
