Disney has set eyes on a British director to use his full service for its upcoming project. First breaking the news, Variety reports that "The Muppets" helmer James Bobin is in early talks to serve behind the lens for the sequel to fantasy film "Alice in Wonderland", currently named "Into the Looking Glass".

Bobin is expected to work on the project alongside scribe Linda Woolverton, who wrote the first film and returns to pen the latest installment. Already coming aboard are Jennifer Todd and Suzanne Todd who will join forces once again with Joe Roth to produce the highly-anticipated feature.

Tim Burton was in charge of 2010's "Alice in Wonderland", which was premiered on February 25 in the U.K. and on March 5 in the U.S. The second highest grossing feature in the same year, it starred Mia Wasikowska as Alice and Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter. The film won Oscars for Best Art Direction and Best Costume Design.

Variety also learns that the first Alice film is being developed as a musical by Disney Theatrical Prods. The stage version will be directed by Rob Ashford and exactly follow the plot of the film as written by Woolverton.

As of now, Bobin is handling the Muppets second film, "The Muppets... Again!"
