In this delightfully twisted comedy from director Terry Zwigoff, Billy Bob Thornton stars as Willie Stokes, a foul-mouthed, alcoholic safecracker who teams up with his diminutive partner Marcus, played by Tony Cox, for a seasonal heist. Every year, the duo poses as a mall Santa and his elf to case department stores, only to rob them blind on Christmas Eve. Willie's downward spiral of self-destruction takes an unexpected turn when he encounters a lonely, overweight boy named Thurman Merman, portrayed by Brett Kelly, who sees past his gruff exterior. Meanwhile, a suspicious mall manager, played by Bernie Mac, and a determined store detective, played by John Ritter, close in on the scheme. As Willie navigates his chaotic relationship with a quirky bartender, played by Lauren Graham, and clashes with Marcus's growing impatience, he finds himself caught between his criminal instincts and an unlikely chance at redemption. Cloris Leachman adds to the mayhem as Thurman's foul-mouthed grandmother.
