The former contestant of 'American Idol' resumes her performance after officials confirm that it's safe to continue the annual gig.

"American Idol" alum Jennifer Hudson was the headliner of the Boston Fireworks Spectacular for the city's 39th annual Independence Day celebration. She sang some songs including "And I Am Telling You" and "Feeling Good" during the gig at the city's iconic Charles River Esplanade.

The concert was halted due to threat of storm, forcing the Boston Pops Orchestra to cut short their performance. The orchestra left the stage just before Hudson could perform for a second time. The 30-year-old Grammy winner had already finished her first number, "Love You I Do", when the evacuation happened.

It was not raining on the Esplanade at the time, but officials motioned to evacuate the area amidst the threat of lightning from the thunderstorm. The concertgoers were allowed back to the Esplanade after 30 minutes and the fireworks display went on as scheduled.

The show was hosted by Emmy award-winning actor Michael Chiklis, marking the second time he carried the duty. The gig aired on CBS in a live one-hour special. Home viewers were unaware of the evacuation because footage was shown on TV without any sort of notification.

EMS spokeswoman Jennifer Mehigan said that two people, a man and a woman were struck by lightning in South Boston. Their condition is unknown.
