HBO has given a vote of confidence to "True Blood" and "The Newsroom". The network has picked up both of the popular horror series and the new drama show to new season, ensuring that they will return for a sixth season and a second season respectively.
The renewal for "True Blood" comes as no surprise since the show is currently ranking as Sunday's highest-rated cable show. The upcoming season will be the first time for the series without creator Alan Ball as showrunner.
As for "Newsroom", the new season pick-up is given after HBO just aired two episodes of it. The drama series from Oscar-winning writer Aaron Sorkin posted the third most-watched series debut for the cable channel with 2.1 million viewers tuning in to watch the premiere.
In another news, the show has just nabbed Terry Crews as a recurring guest star. The athlete-turned-actor, who will reprise his role as Hale Caesar in the upcoming "The Expendables 2", will portray a bodyguard and unofficial life coach for Will McAvoy (Jeff Daniels).
Crews will be first introduced in the sixth episode which is slated to air on July 29, and reappear in four other episodes.
