Neil Patrick Harris kicked off the 2012 Tony Awards ceremony on Sunday, June 10 with an enchanting musical performance. Showing off his powerful vocal chops, Harris asked the audience through the lyrics of his song, "What if life was a musical?", and dubbed the show "fifty shades of gay."

"What if all your questions had rhyming answers and you never left home without your backup dancers," so the 38-year-old actor sang. "And your next door neighbor was the legendary Patti LuPone," he continued, as LuPone joined him onstage and pretended to mow the lawn.

Clad in a sleek black tux, the Will Fratalli of "Beastly" delivered the energetic opening monologue with several backup dancers. At one point, he swapped his black suit with a white blazer. Also Joining him on stage were Amanda Seyfried, Lilla Crawford as well as the cast of "The Book of Mormon".

This year's Tonys marked the "How I Met Your Mother" star's third hosting duty for the Broadway's biggest prize-giving event. The biggest winner at the event was "Once" which collected a total of six kudos, while "Peter and the Starcatcher" followed behind with four gongs.
