The latest installment of the horror film franchise is set to open in the U.S. theaters this year though no exact release date has been announced.

AceShowbiz - Following the big success of "Paranormal Activity 3" in 2011, Paramount Pictures has planned to release its follow-up in 2012. On Tuesday, January 2, the studio issued a press release, revealing that it will unleash "Paranormal Activity 4" this year along with some other potential big movies.

"In 2012, Paramount's release slate highlights include 'World War Z', a zombie thriller starring Brad Pitt and directed by Marc Foster, 'G.I. Joe: Retaliation', the next installment in the global franchise starring Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson and Channing Tatum', a new chapter in the 'Paranormal Activity' franchise, and 'The Dictator', starring Sacha Baron Cohen and directed by Larry Charles, the team behind 'Borat'," said the announcement. However, the exact release date for "Paranormal Activity 4" has not been set.

No further details about the upcoming "Paranormal Activity" movie have been disclosed, and Paramount hasn't confirmed whether Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman will return to the directing seats or not. The screenwriter and the actors for the forthcoming film haven't been announced as well.

The last "Paranormal Activity" film was released on October 21, 2011. The horror film collected $54 million on its opening weekend in October, making it the best opening of all time for a horror movie. It had also successfully grossed a massive $202 million worldwide despite the fact that it only cost around $5 million to produce.
