In the court documents, the former 'Little House on the Prairie' star unravels that she has parted ways with Bruce Boxleitner on January 5 and asks for joint custody of their teen son.

AceShowbiz - Another Hollywood couple called an end to their marriage. Former "Little House on the Prairie" star Melissa Gilbert has filed for divorce from her actor husband, Bruce Boxleitner, after 16 years together. She made the filing in Los Angeles Superior Court last Monday, August 22.

In the court documents, the 47-year-old actress cites irreconcilable differences as the reason of the split. She seeks joint legal and physical custody of their 15-year-old son, Michael, who was named after her "Prairie" co-star Michael Landon, as well as asks for not having to pay spousal support to her 61-year-old estranged husband.

Melissa also reveals in the papers that she and Bruce have separated since January 5. In a recently released statement, the former Screen Actors Guild president told E! News, "We have loved each other for a very long time and we share four incredible sons together. On behalf of our family we ask to be allowed our privacy during this very difficult time."

Melissa tied the knot with Bruce in 1995. She gave birth to their son Michael later that year. The estranged couple also have three adult sons from their previous marriages. News of the divorce filing came in the same week Melissa's sister Sara Gilbert announced her separation from girlfriend of 10 years, Allison Adler.
