"Glee" continues to make headline. After scoring its highest rating ever with more than 13 million viewers tuning in for Britney Spears episode, now the FOX's hit TV series breaks record on Billboard Hot 100 by having the most appearances among non-solo acts in the chart's 52-year history.
The cast have racked up 75 Hot 100 chart entries, surpassing The Beatles' 71 charted titles. The achievement was made when Lea Michele and the gang bow on the U.S. singles list with five covers of Britney's songs as well as Paramore's "The Only Exception".
This also means that "Glee" has become the third-most appearances among all acts since the Hot 100 launched in August 1958. Sitting at No. 1 is Elvis Presley with 108 charted titles, and securing the runner-up place is James Brown with 91. Ray Charles and Aretha Franklin, meanwhile, follow the cast closely at No. 4 and 5 with 74 and 73 respectively.
So far, "Glee" has sold around 11.5 million downloads with their remixes, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Moreover, they have pulled in more than 2.8 million albums with its previous three, "Glee: The Music, Volume 3: Showstoppers", "Glee: The Music, The Power of Madonna" and "Glee: The Music, Journey to Regionals" all reaching No. 1 on Billboard Hot 200.
