ABBA and Genesis beat the likes of KISS and Red Hot Chili Peppers at the next year's Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

ABBA, Genesis, The Stooges, Jimmy Cliff and The Hollies are those who will be inducted into Rock and Roll Hall of Fame next year. They will be honored at a ceremony which will take place at New York's Waldorf Astoria on March 15.

Not making into the induction, meanwhile, are KISS, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Donna Summer, LL Cool J, Darlene Love, Laura Nyro and The Chantels. They have to wait another year for their next shot at induction.

Commenting on their election, ABBA's member Benny Andersson told Rolling Stone, "I didn't think this would happen, because we were a pop band, not a rock band. Being a foreigner from the North Pole, this feels really good."

On whether they will attend the ceremony or not, he said, "It's very tricky because Agnetha [Faltskog] is not flying. The people who are really fond of ABBA for what we did, I think we are doing them a favor by not going out. It's 99 against 1 [odds], though."
