Following the announcement of the 67th Annual Golden Globe Awards nominations, the winners of 2009 Toronto Film Critics Association (TFCA) Awards have been unveiled on Tuesday, December 15. In tie for Best Picture were Quentin Tarantino's "Inglourious Basterds" and Steve McQueen's "Hunger". Meanwhile, Kathryn Bigelow's "The Hurt Locker" was chosen as the runner-up.

Beside the Best Picture prize, the Brad Pitt-starring action movie was in tie with "Up in the Air" for Best Screenplay, while the film about the 1981 hunger strike at Ireland's Maze prison landed Best First Feature gong for McQueen. In the meantime, Iraq-set movie about an Army bomb squad aided Bigelow to receive Best Director award.

Other winners of the 2009 TFCA Awards were Nicolas Cage who was named Best Performance, Male through his acting in "Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans", and "Up in the Air" actress Anna Kendrick who was honored with Best Supporting Performance, Female award.

"The Necessities of Life", "Polytechnique", and "Bruce McDonald's Pontypool" are still competing for the Rogers Best Canadian Feature award and the winner will be announced at the gala night on January 12, 2010. During the event, the winner of inaugural Jay Scott prize for emerging talent will also be announced and editor of CinemaScope magazine Mark Peranson will receive the org's Clyde Gilmour award for advancing the appreciation of film.
