Hosted by Katy Perry, 2009 MTV Europe Music Awards has just been wrapped. In the main categories, Beyonce Knowles dominated the winners list with three gongs, two of which were for Best Song and Best Female.

In Best Song, Beyonce's "Halo" beat such hit singles as Black Eyed Peas' "I Gotta Feeling", David Guetta's "When Love Takes Over", Kings of Leon's "Use Somebody" and Lady GaGa's "Poker Face". For Best Female meanwhile, she dethroned Katy, Leona Lewis, Shakira and pushed aside Lady GaGa once again.

Beyonce collected her third trophy at the event for Best Video. Her famous "Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)" video won over Eminem's "We Made You", Britney Spears' "Circus", Katy's "Waking Up in Vegas" and Shakira's "She Wolf". During her acceptance speech, she managed to thank her husband Jay-Z who grabbed Best Urban for "putting a ring on it."

As for Jay-Z, the rapper made reference to Jonas Brothers and Green Day when taking the stage to collect his Best Urban prize. He said, "I thank you for this award. I look forward to the day - because it's called the Best Urban Artist - I look forward to the day when all those walls come down and it's just music. I go in the studio just like the Jonas Brothers, just like Green Day, and we all just make music. We are all just artists at the end of the day."

Other winners at the November 5 gala ceremony included U2, Tokio Hotel and Green Day who all made live performances. Spotted absent at the event were Best New Act winner Lady GaGa and Best Male winner Eminem.
