An investigation reportedly has been conducted by the Los Angeles Police Department on a possible "criminal activity" in the leak of threesome tape featuring actor Eric Dane, his wife Rebecca Gayheart, and former Miss Teen USA Kari Ann Peniche in various states of undress. On Wednesday, August 19, the department issued a statement, confirming "On July 30, 2009, an unnamed source provided the LAPD's Detective Support and Vice Division with a copy of a DVD. According to the source, the DVD contained images that could link celebrities engaging in illegal activity."
"The LAPD was in the process of reviewing the voluminous files contained on the DVD when the story was leaked to the media. No determination has been made as to whether or not the DVD contained any information that could be used for a criminal investigation," the statement continued. "Some of the information contained on the DVD included archived articles and photographs of porn stars and formally convicted madams, which could readily be found over the Internet."
"The LAPD will continue to review the DVD for potential evidence. Therefore, additional information about the contents of the DVD will be treated as confidential," the press release concluded.
The infamous threesome tape was first unleashed by Gawker.com on Monday, August 17. One day later, Kari Ann Peniche told TMZ the tape was taken more than two years ago at her apartment. She, furthermore, told the site that she believes her former roommate Mindy McCready stole it from the hard drive of her computer after they were involved in an argument over money. Mindy herself hasn't commented on the matter just yet.
