A music video aimed to promote Rise Against's single "Hero of War" has been debuted. The Meriert Avis-directed video shows band's frontman Tim McIlrath sitting on a swing while singing to the song and strumming his guitar. At some points, it also captures several soldiers on a battle.

"Hero of War" comes from Rise Against's 2008 effort "Appeal to Reason". The multi-layered acoustic guitar song tells the story of a soldier as "he battles not just the war around him, but the war that rages within."

In regard of what they really want to say through the track, the band wrote on their official website, "'Hero of War' is our attempt to lift the stigma that surrounds everything from the skyrocketing suicide rate of troops, torture, internal sexual abuse, an under-funded VA, and the growing number of military personnel fighting Post Traumatic Stress Disorder as they return home." They ended the post stating, "We hope this song and this video help the simmering dialog about these problems evolve into a rolling boil."
