"The Twilight Saga's Eclipse" has finally got its own director. Amidst rumor that director David Slade is lining up to be the helmer of the third "Twilight" movie, Summit Entertainment have confirmed the circulating speculation through a statement released on Wednesday, April 22 and revealed that the "30 Days of Night" director will take over the franchise next.

"Stephenie Meyer's 'Eclipse' is a muscular, rich, vivid book and we at Summit looked long and hard for a director who could do it justice," the studio's president of production Erik Feig said. "We believe we have found that talent in David Slade, a director who has been able to create complex, visually arresting worlds. We cannot wait to see the 'Eclipse' he brings to life and brings to the fans eagerly awaiting its arrival in summer of 2010."

Adding to Feig's statement, author Stephenie Meyer shared her own words of the newly-appointed helmer, "I am thrilled that David Slade will be directing 'Eclipse'." She moreover explained, "He's a visionary filmmaker who has so much to offer this franchise. From the beginning, we've been blessed with wonderful directorial talent for the 'Twilight' saga, and I'm so happy that 'Eclipse' will be carrying on with that tradition."

Earlier, Nikki Finke at Deadline Hollywood Daily broke the news that David Slade has become the latest film director to be linked to "Eclipse". At the time, Finke reported that the "Hard Candy" director was in negotiations with Summit for the role behind the lens. He reportedly had met author Stephenie Meyer and the studio's president of production Erik Feig, but it was stressed that no deal had been signed.

"Eclipse" will be a follow-up to "The Twilight Saga's New Moon" and like the two "Twilight" movies before it, it will be penned by Melissa Rosenberg. Set for June 30, 2010 U.S. release, it will follow Bella Swan as she once again finds herself surrounded by danger. Now, she is forced to choose between her love for Edward and her friendship with Jacob, with the knowledge that her decision has the potential to ignite the ageless struggle between vampire and werewolf.
