Choosing to focus on 'Bioshock', director of 'Pirates of the Caribbean' trilogy Gore Verbinski has informed 'Pirates 4' producers that he will not helm the fourth installment.

In a surprising twist to the development of "Pirates of the Caribbean 4", the fourth installment of the pirate adventure series is now director-less. After having much success helming "Pirates of the Caribbean" trilogy, director Gore Verbinski has reportedly chosen to pass on directing the latest "Pirates" project.
"I had a fantastic time bringing 'Pirates' to life, and I am eternally grateful to Jerry, Johnny and the rest of the creative and production team," the 45-year-old filmmaker was quoted by Variety explaining his exit. "I'm looking forward to all of us crossing paths again in the future." Of his decision, he was said to have informed both Disney and producer Jerry Bruckheimer.
Though leaving "Pirates", Verbinski will still work with "Pirates" star Johnny Depp as the two team up in "Rango". As for his other future feature project, the director of Nicolas Cage-starring "The Weather Man" will put his focus on "Bioshock", a video game adaptation about an underwater city haunted by crazed mutants and other strange things.
Though detailed information about "Pirates 4" has remained tightly under wraps, it is said that the new project will be focusing solely on Jack Sparrow, which will be portrayed by Johnny Depp once again. In the new adventure to find the Fountain of Youth, he will have to team up with Captain Barbossa in order to "defeat some supernatural terror". Keira Knightley has previously ruled out her return as Elizabeth Swann in the new project.
