The first half of Pixar's animated 'Up' chronicles the younger years of Carl Fredricksen and the real reason why Russell ends up stuck on the porch of Carl's house.

On the first day of the 4th annual New York Comic Con, Pixar have held a special screening of their upcoming animated movie "Up" for selected press and 300 lucky fans. The screening which took place at the IGN Theater on Saturday, February 7, presented a look into the first 46 minutes of the animated movie and IGN have written down what they have seen at the preview.
"Up" opens with a scene when Carl Fredricksen is only a little boy. In the scene, it can be seen that young Carl is watching a newsreel about an explorer named Charles Muntz and fascinated by Muntz's adventure. However, he is not the only one interested by it. When walking home, he meets Ellie, a tomboy who is equally fascinated by the nature and adventure.
Sharing similar interests, the two quickly bond, become friends and years later husband and wife. While always dreaming of going on an adventure to Paradise Falls, both Carl and Ellie never have the chance to make the dream a reality until Ellie dies, leaving Carl alone.
Though everything around his house is developing and construction company keeps trying to buy Carl's house, the old man refuses to do so. However, after he assaults a construction worker, he is forced to give up his home. Determined to hold onto the home he shared with his wife and to realize their lifelong dream of going to Paradise Falls, Carl inflates hundreds of balloons and harnesses them to the house, turning it into a giant hot-air balloon ride.
When the house is hundreds of feet up in the air, there is a knock on the door and soon Carl realizes that 8 year-old Junior Wilderness Explorer scout who visited Carl earlier to earn one last badge, the "assisting the elderly" badge is accidentally joining the ride. Though relentless, Carl finally lets Russell to get into the house, and their adventure to Paradise Falls begins to unravel.
Filling the voice of Carl and Russell are Edward Asner and Jordan Nagai respectively. They are supported by other voice talents, including Christopher Plummer, John Ratzenberger and Paul Eiding. The animation movie is set for U.S. release on May 29.
