R.E.M. will showcase some of their materials from new album 'Accelerate' live on SxSW festival this year.

To coincide with their new album's release, R.E.M. have signed up to be one of the performers in SxSW aka South by South West, a festival in Austin, Texas that has attracted large crowd and showcased renown acts annually.

The band will preview the materials in their highly-anticipated new album, 'Accelerate', that is due April 1. This year, the festival will present more than 1,500 acts and run March 7 to 16 in several different venues.

Other performers which have been confirmed for SxSW are Daryl Hall, U2's producer Daniel Lanois, Paul Kelly and The Vines. Lou Reed will act as this year's keynote speaker.

R.E.M.'s manager, Bertis Down, has spoken about their album recently saying, "It's not like we're going to pretend these are ballads. These are rockers." The band have been releasing daily clips in promotion of the album on NinetyNights.com.
