Aiming to spark more videogame-based movies after "Resident Evil" franchise, Sony Pictures is about to make "Metal Gear Solid", a live-action adaptation of the Konami's hit videogame franchise, the company itself has confirmed through vice chairman Yair Landau.

"We're working with the Metal Gear guys," so Landau said following his D.I.C.E. summit keynote address in Las Vegas. "It's a very cinematic game, it really lends itself to movie telling."

Any details on the project, however, have not yet been revealed except that Michael De Luca will serve as producer with the game's creator Hideo Kojima executive producing.

First came out in 1998 for the PlayStation video game console, the original series has became one of the industry's biggest hits and generated four sequels with the latest, "Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots", being set to be released later this year for PlayStation 3. It has appeared in many "best games of all time" lists, like those of Entertainment Weekly, Electronic Gaming Monthly, and GamePro.
