Grammy-winning singer Shakira teamed up with fellow Colombian author Gabriel Garcia Marquez in Panama City Tuesday Dec 12th to launch a child poverty foundation.

The two figures launched the so-called "America Latina en Accion Solidaria" or Latin America in Solidarity Action, aimed at fighting poverty in Latin America. "We all have to do our part to fight against inequality," Shakira said.

Has been tapped to serve as executive director of the foundation is Spanish singer Miguel Bose. One of programs will provide health and nutritional aid to expectant mothers and children younger than 2, while another will seek to enroll exploited and homeless kids in school.

Some other musicians lending support to ALAS among others are Ruben Blades, Juanes, Ricky Martin, the Mexican rock group MANA, Aleks Syntek, David Bisbal and Alejandro Sanz.
