In the sprawling, nearly seventeen-hour documentary The Katabasis of..., director Amalaika Priambodo embarks on an auda...
In the sun-baked Texas countryside of 1979, a group of ambitious young filmmakers rent a secluded farmhouse to shoot their ultimate project: a provocative adult film. Led by producer Wayne Martin Henderson and starring the eager Maxine Mia Goth, her boyfriend Bobby-Lynne Brittany Snow, and aspiring actor Jackson Kid Cudi, the crew sees this as their ticket to fame and fortune. They are joined by director RJ Owen Campbell and his girlfriend Lorraine Jenna Ortega, who aims to document the process seriously. Their hedonistic plans are complicated by the farm's reclusive, elderly hosts, Howard Stephen Ure and his wife, who view the youngsters' liberated lifestyle with a disturbing mix of fascination and puritanical judgment. Directed by Ti West, this stylish and visceral slasher explores the collision of desire, ambition, and aging, as the group's pornographic endeavor awakens a terrifying and bloody confrontation with the dark side of repression.
