On a remote Scottish island during the wartime rationing of 1943, a precious commodity suddenly washes ashore: 50,000 cases of whisky from a sunken cargo ship. Directed by Gillies MacKinnon, this charming comedy sees the spirited and parched locals, led by the mischievous Macroon family patriarch Gregor Fisher and the determined young sergeant Kevin Guthrie, hatch a plan to salvage the liquid treasure. Their scheme is threatened, however, by the rigid and abstinent English Home Guard commander, Captain Waggett, played by Tim Pigott-Smith, who is determined to enforce the law and confiscate the bounty. As the islanders’ cunning and camaraderie are tested, a delightful game of cat and mouse ensues, filled with wit, romance, and a celebration of community spirit against the picturesque Hebridean backdrop. With a stellar cast including Eddie Izzard as an opportunistic writer and Ellie Kendrick as a spirited islander, "Whisky Galore!" is a heartwarming and humorous tale of rebellion, resourcefulness, and the universal longing for a wee dram of joy.
