In Noah Baumbach's sharp and insightful comedy-drama, a sense of creeping irrelevance grips Josh, a documentary filmmaker played by Ben Stiller, and his wife Cornelia, portrayed by Naomi Watts. Their comfortable, creative life in New York City begins to feel stale as they watch their friends settle into parenthood, a path they themselves have not taken. Their world is invigorated when they befriend a charismatic and seemingly free-spirited young couple, Jamie and Darby, played by Adam Driver and Amanda Seyfried. Drawn into a whirlwind of hipster parties, vinyl records, and unbridled spontaneity, Josh and Cornelia attempt to recapture their own lost youth. However, as Josh begins to collaborate with Jamie on a film project, the initial thrill gives way to unsettling questions about authenticity, ambition, and the very nature of creative integrity. This witty and perceptive film explores the anxieties of middle age with a keen eye for generational divides, forcing its protagonists to confront who they really are versus who they think they want to be.
