In the witty and introspective romantic comedy "Trust the Man," two couples navigate the messy, often hilarious complexities of modern relationships in New York City. Directed by Bart Freundlich, the film follows Tom (c=David Duchovny), a stay-at-home dad who feels increasingly disconnected from his ambitious wife, Rebecca (c=Julianne Moore), a busy actress. As Tom wrestles with his insecurities and a wandering eye, his best friend, Tobey (c=Billy Crudup), a charming but commitment-phobic advertising executive, is in crisis with his long-time girlfriend, Elaine (c=Maggie Gyllenhaal), who is desperate for him to propose. While Tobey’s avoidance drives Elaine toward a tempting new friendship with a handsome man (c=James LeGros), Tom’s flirtation with a seductive woman (c=Eva Mendes) threatens to unravel his family. Blending sharp humor with genuine emotional stakes, the film explores the fears, temptations, and fragile trust that define love, asking whether the people we rely on most can truly be counted on when it matters.
