In this offbeat dramedy, Michael C. Hall stars as Morris Bliss, a thirty-five-year-old man stuck in a rut, living in the shadow of his late father and working a dead-end job in New York City. Morris is a man paralyzed by indecision, unable to move forward with his life or his stalled relationship with his best friend’s girlfriend, played by Sarah Shahi. His stagnant world is upended when he meets a precocious and impulsive eighteen-year-old high school student, portrayed by Brie Larson, who becomes infatuated with him. As Morris navigates this unexpected and inappropriate connection, he must also contend with his eccentric and overbearing father, played by Peter Fonda, and the meddling advice of his best friend, played by Chris Messina. With a tone that blends dry humor with genuine pathos, the film explores themes of arrested development and the terrifying prospect of finally taking control of one’s own destiny. Directed by Michael Knowles, Trouble with Bliss, The offers a poignant and often funny look at a man forced to confront the very mess he has made of his life, featuring a strong supporting cast including Lucy Liu and Rhea Perlman.
