Spanglish
From acclaimed multiple Oscar-winning writer/director/producer James L.Brooks comes the comedy drama Spanglish - a loo...
Jennifer Fox's deeply personal and unflinching drama Tale, The follows Jennifer, a successful documentary filmmaker played by Laura Dern, who is forced to confront a traumatic memory from her childhood that she has long suppressed. As a thirteen-year-old girl, she had a relationship with her riding coach and a charismatic track coach, which she once romanticized as a meaningful romance. Now, decades later, after her mother, played by Ellen Burstyn, discovers a story she wrote at the time, Jennifer begins to investigate the truth behind those events. The film unfolds as a riveting mystery, with Jennifer interviewing her past self, her family, and the now-elderly men involved, including her riding coach portrayed by Sebastian Koch. Through this painful excavation, she must dismantle the comforting narratives she built and face the harrowing reality of her own victimization. With a powerful supporting cast including Common as a fellow survivor and Elizabeth Debicki as a compassionate adult version of her younger self, the film masterfully blends genres of drama and mystery to explore memory, complicity, and the long, difficult road to reclaiming one's own story.
