In the chilling psychological thriller Stonehearst Asylum, directed by Brad Anderson, a young medical graduate named Edward Newgate (Jim Sturgess) arrives at the titular asylum in 1899, eager to study under the progressive and charismatic Dr. Silas Lamb (Ben Kingsley). However, Newgate soon discovers that the asylum’s unconventional methods are deeply unsettling, as Dr. Lamb presides over a facility where the line between doctor and patient is dangerously blurred. As Newgate becomes increasingly entangled with a mysterious female patient, Eliza Graves (Kate Beckinsale), he begins to suspect that the entire institution is hiding a dark and sinister secret. With a stellar ensemble cast including Michael Caine, Brendan Gleeson, and David Thewlis, the film masterfully builds an atmosphere of creeping dread and paranoia. As Newgate questions the sanity of both the inmates and their keepers, he must confront a harrowing truth that will challenge his own grip on reality, leading to a gripping and unpredictable descent into madness.
