In the gritty, interconnected world of Staten Island, three desperate individuals find their lives colliding in unexpected ways. Directed by James DeMonaco, this raw drama follows Sully (played by Ethan Hawke), a septic tank worker with a dream of escaping his blue-collar existence to provide a better life for his unborn child. His path crosses with the ruthless local mobster Parmie (portrayed by Vincent D'Onofrio), a deaf mob enforcer with a penchant for violence and a cunning plan to expand his criminal empire. Meanwhile, Jasper (brought to life by Seymour Cassel), a reclusive elderly man living in the woods, harbors a dark secret and a hidden fortune that draws the attention of both men. As their ambitions and secrets intertwine, the story unfolds against the backdrop of the island's working-class neighborhoods and desolate landscapes. With a tense, atmospheric tone and a touch of dark humor, the film explores themes of desperation, survival, and the lengths people will go to for a chance at redemption, all leading to a gripping and unexpected climax.
