In the comedy Rock the Kasbah, directed by Barry Levinson, washed-up music manager Richie Lanz, played by Bill Murray, finds his life taking an unexpected turn during a USO tour in Afghanistan. After being stranded when his only client, singer Ronnie, portrayed by Zooey Deschanel, abandons him, Richie discovers a remarkable new talent: a young Afghan woman with an extraordinary voice. Defying cultural norms and dangerous local customs, he sets out on a perilous quest to get her a spot on the popular television show "Afghan Star." Along his chaotic journey, Richie encounters a colorful array of characters including a shady arms dealer played by Bruce Willis, a friendly prostitute named Merci portrayed by Kate Hudson, and two opportunistic mercenaries brought to life by Scott Caan and Danny McBride. With a screenplay by Mitch Glazer, this R-rated adventure runs for 100 minutes and follows one man's unlikely attempt to bring rock and roll to a war zone.
