When a massive drug lord orchestrates a terrorist attack that quarantines the entire city of Miami during a police convention, the bumbling deputies of the Reno Sheriff's Department find themselves as the only law enforcement officers available to save the day. Led by the clueless but well-meaning Lieutenant Jim Dangle, played by Thomas Lennon, this motley crew of incompetents—including the narcissistic Deputy Wiegel (Kerri Kenney), the perpetually confused Deputy Jones (Cedric Yarbrough), and the rest of the hilariously inept squad—must rise to the occasion despite their complete lack of training, common sense, or basic competence. Forced to navigate the chaos of a locked-down Miami, they encounter a parade of absurd situations, from run-ins with a local celebrity (played by Paul Rudd) to bizarre encounters with the city's colorful residents. Directed by Robert Ben Garant, this action comedy extends the irreverent, improvisational humor of the television series into a feature-length romp that balances crude jokes with surprisingly genuine camaraderie. With the clock ticking and the fate of a major American city in their unsteady hands, these unlikely heroes must somehow prove that even the worst cops can occasionally stumble into doing the right thing.
