When the legendary Pink Panther diamond is stolen and a famous soccer coach is murdered, the French authorities face a national scandal. In a desperate bid for a quick and public resolution, Chief Inspector Dreyfus, played by Kevin Kline, promotes the most incompetent officer he can find to take the blame: the bumbling, accident-prone Inspector Jacques Clouseau, portrayed by Steve Martin. Paired with the long-suffering, by-the-book Gendarme Ponton (Jean Reno), Clouseau is unleashed on the case, where his chaotic methods leave a trail of destruction across Paris. Their investigation brings them into the orbit of the victim's glamorous girlfriend, pop star Xania (Beyoncé), who may know more than she reveals. As Clouseau stumbles from one disastrous clue to the next, seemingly incapable of tying his own shoes let alone solving a crime, the real killer remains at large and the priceless gem is still missing. This slapstick comedy, directed by David Silverman, delivers a whirlwind of mistaken identities, absurd disguises, and spectacularly failed detective work, all set against the backdrop of high society and international intrigue.
