A hardened ex-convict, played by John Schneider, seeks a fresh start by taking a handyman job at a decrepit boarding house on the ominously named Penance Lane. He soon discovers the crumbling residence harbors more than just eccentric tenants like the enigmatic Tyler Mane and the troubled Scout Taylor-Compton. As he attempts to renovate his way toward redemption, he uncovers a labyrinth of hidden passages and a horrifying secret buried within the walls. The house, and its strange caretaker Daniel Roebuck, seem to have a sinister will of their own, pulling the newcomer into a nightmare from which there may be no escape.
