In the taut, cerebral thriller directed by David Hare, veteran MI5 analyst Johnny Worricker (Bill Nighy) has spent decades quietly reviewing intelligence, content to remain in the shadows. His carefully ordered life is upended when his enigmatic neighbor, Nancy Pierpan (Rachel Weisz), draws him into a personal and political entanglement. Simultaneously, his mentor and boss, the formidable Benedict Baron (Michael Gambon), dies suddenly, leaving Johnny in possession of a highly sensitive document—the titular “Page Eight”—that exposes a dark and illegal conspiracy reaching the highest levels of British government. As Johnny begins to piece together the implications of the file, he finds himself caught between a ruthless Prime Minister (Ralph Fiennes) and his own conscience. With his loyalties tested and his safety compromised, Johnny must navigate a treacherous web of deceit, manipulation, and moral ambiguity, all while trying to protect the fragile trust he has built with Nancy. Featuring a stellar supporting cast including Judy Davis and Felicity Jones, this slow-burn espionage drama delivers a sophisticated and deeply human portrait of a man forced to choose between his duty and his principles.
