In the haunting wilderness of the Michigan marshlands, a woman’s carefully constructed life is shattered by a dangerous figure from her past. Daisy Ridley stars as Helena, a wife and mother who has spent years burying the traumatic truth of her childhood—she was raised in isolation by her charismatic but monstrous father, known as the Marsh King. When he escapes from prison, expertly played by Ben Mendelsohn, Helena is forced to confront the brutal legacy she fled. Directed by Neil Burger, this tense psychological drama and thriller delves into the complex bond between captive and captor, as Helena must use the very survival skills her father taught her to protect her own family. With the authorities, including a determined agent portrayed by Gil Birmingham, closing in, Helena embarks on a perilous journey into the wild to confront the man who shaped her, knowing that to save her future, she must finally face the darkness of her past.
