In Lucky Them, a witty and heartfelt dramedy from director Megan Griffiths, rock journalist Ellie Klug (a wonderfully nuanced Toni Collette) is tasked with a seemingly impossible assignment: track down her long-lost ex-boyfriend, a legendary but reclusive musician who vanished years ago. Ten years after his disappearance, her editor (the ever-charming Oliver Platt) pairs her with an enthusiastic amateur documentarian, Charlie (a scene-stealing Thomas Haden Church), to create a feature on the elusive artist. As Ellie and Charlie embark on a road trip through Seattle’s vibrant music scene, they follow a trail of cryptic clues and eccentric characters, including a fellow journalist played by Ahna O'Reilly and a brash club owner portrayed by Nina Arianda. Reluctantly confronting her own past and the unresolved feelings she still harbors, Ellie must decide whether finding the man is worth risking the carefully constructed life she has built.
