As the holiday season descends upon a snowy small town, the Cooper family gathers for what they hope will be a perfect Christmas, but their individual struggles and secrets threaten to unravel the festive cheer. Directed by Jessie Nelson, this heartwarming dramedy follows the aging patriarch Sam, played by John Goodman, and his wife Charlotte, portrayed by Diane Keaton, who are on the verge of calling it quits after decades of marriage. Their four adult children, including a struggling writer ( Ed Helms ), a single mother ( Olivia Wilde ), and a lonely waitress ( Amanda Seyfried ), each arrive carrying their own burdens, from romantic dilemmas to financial woes. Adding to the chaos is the family’s mischievous grandfather ( Alan Arkin ) and a kind-hearted diner patron ( Anthony Mackie ) who becomes an unexpected guest. Over the course of one long, eventful evening, confrontations, laughter, and tender moments force the Coopers to confront what truly matters. Blending comedic warmth with poignant drama, the film captures the messy, beautiful reality of family bonds during the most wonderful time of the year.
