In the darkly comedic horror film Life After Beth, directed by Jeff Baena, a young man named Zach (played by Dane DeHaan) is plunged into a surreal nightmare when his girlfriend, Beth (Aubrey Plaza), dies unexpectedly. As Zach struggles to cope with his profound grief, he is shocked to discover that Beth has mysteriously returned from the dead, seemingly alive and well. While her parents, played by John C. Reilly and Molly Shannon, are overjoyed at the resurrection, Zach soon realizes that Beth’s reanimation comes with unsettling changes in her personality and behavior. As he attempts to rekindle their relationship, he must navigate the bizarre and increasingly dangerous consequences of her return, all while dealing with his protective new girlfriend (Anna Kendrick) and a curious detective (Paul Reiser). Blending sharp humor with genuine horror, the film explores themes of love, loss, and the lengths one might go to hold onto a relationship that has already ended. With a talented ensemble cast including Matthew Gray Gubler, Cheryl Hines, and Paul Weitz, this R-rated genre-bender delivers a uniquely twisted take on the zombie romance.
