In a Havana that is suddenly overrun by the walking dead, the government insists these are merely dissidents stirred up by American provocateurs. For the resourceful but perpetually bored slacker Juan, played by Alexis Diaz de Villegas, the zombie apocalypse isn't a crisis—it's a business opportunity. Teaming up with his loyal but equally aimless best friend Lazaro Luis Alberto Garcia, Juan founds "Juan of the Dead," a unique service offering to dispatch the troublesome "dissidents" plaguing his neighbors for a fee. Directed and written by Alejandro Brugues, this darkly comedic romp follows Juan and his ragtag crew, which includes his estranged daughter Andrea Duro and the formidable Sara Elsa Camp, as they navigate a city in chaotic collapse. Their simple plan for profit quickly becomes a far more personal and dangerous mission of survival, forcing Juan to confront his own shortcomings as a father and a friend. Blending sharp social satire with gory zombie mayhem, the film delivers a uniquely Cuban and hilariously irreverent take on the end of the world.
