In the comedy I Feel Pretty, Amy Schumer stars as Renee Bennett, a woman who has always struggled with her self-image and feels invisible in a world obsessed with conventional beauty. After a head injury at a SoulCycle class, she wakes up believing she is suddenly stunningly gorgeous, though her appearance has not actually changed. This newfound, unshakeable confidence transforms her life, propelling her from a shy, self-conscious employee of a high-end cosmetics company to a bold, charismatic presence who charms her way into a receptionist job at the company’s flagship Manhattan office. Directed by Abby Kohn and Marc Silverstein, the film explores Renee’s journey as she navigates friendships with her supportive pals, played by Busy Philipps and Aidy Bryant, and pursues a romance with a sweet man, portrayed by Rory Scovel. She also clashes with her intimidating boss, played by Michelle Williams, and the seemingly perfect office beauty, played by Emily Ratajkowski. This lighthearted and thought-provoking comedy cleverly questions society’s standards of beauty, ultimately asking whether true confidence comes from how others see you or how you see yourself.
