Meet Me at the Club: The Castro Country Club Story
In a time when safe spaces were a lifeline for the LGBTQ+ community, director J. Andrew crafts an intimate and heartfel...
In the sweltering heat of Memphis, a small-time pimp named DJay, played with raw intensity by Terrence Dashon Howard, feels his dreams slipping through his fingers. Driving the streets in his beat-up car, he hustles to survive with a few women, including the pregnant Nola (Taryn Manning) and the fiercely loyal Shug (Taraji P. Henson). A chance encounter with an old acquaintance, now a successful rapper, ignites a long-dormant spark within him, pushing DJay to chase a desperate, last-chance ambition: to become a rap artist. With the help of a sympathetic sound engineer (Anthony Anderson) and a nervous equipment supplier (DJ Qualls), he transforms his cramped home into a makeshift studio, pouring his frustrations, hopes, and gritty reality into a demo tape. Directed by Craig Brewer, this gritty drama pulsates with the rhythm of the streets, following DJay’s perilous journey as he risks everything he has in a high-stakes bid to transform his hustle into a flow that the world will hear, all while navigating the dangerous attention of a volatile local star (Ludacris).
