In the summer of 1986, a fledgling Christian hair metal band gets a divine shot at rock and roll redemption in the charming comedy Electric Jesus. The story follows 316, a group of earnest teenagers led by the wide-eyed Erik (Andrew Eakle), who are plucked from church camp obscurity by a charismatic, slightly shady manager (Shawn Parsons). With their van named "The Genesis" and a sound that blends scripture with shredding guitar solos, they embark on a wild, small-town tour across the American South, guided by their road-hardened driver (Brian Baumgartner). Their journey is a hilarious and heartfelt clash of faith, fame, and heavy metal dreams, as they navigate questionable gigs, internal tensions, and the looming presence of a legendary Christian rock star (Judd Nelson). Directed by Chris White, this music-filled adventure captures the awkward sincerity of youth and the universal power of chasing a stage, offering a feel-good blend of comedy and nostalgia where the path to salvation might just be lined with distortion pedals and spandex.
