In the gritty, tension-fueled thriller “96 Minutes,” director Aimee Lagos weaves together the intersecting lives of four young people over the course of a single, harrowing night. The film follows Carley (Brittany Snow), a college student whose world is shattered when she and her best friend are carjacked by two desperate young men, Dre (Evan Ross) and Kevin (Justin Martin). As the stolen vehicle cuts a violent path through the city, the narrative also follows Lena (Christian Serratos), a young mother whose own reckless choices are about to collide with the unfolding crime. The story unfolds in near real-time, creating a claustrophobic atmosphere of mounting dread as the motives of each character are slowly revealed. What begins as a straightforward robbery becomes a complex exploration of desperation, class, and the split-second decisions that can alter lives forever. With a raw, documentary-like intensity and a cast including David Oyelowo and Hosea Chanchez, this R-rated drama forces viewers to confront the uncomfortable truth that everyone involved is both a victim and a perpetrator.
