Trick Pony was an American country music trio that brought a high-energy, rock-infused sound to the genre in the early 2000s, achieving notable chart success. Formed in Nashville, Tennessee in 1999, the group consisted of Heidi Newfield on lead vocals, acoustic guitar, and harmonica, Keith Burns on lead guitar and vocals, and Ira Dean on bass guitar and vocals. Their dynamic stage presence and Newfield's powerful, bluesy voice quickly set them apart, leading to a record deal.

The trio's self-titled debut album, "Trick Pony", was released in 2001 and became their claim to fame, earning gold certification. It spawned their first major hit, "Pour Me", which climbed into the Top 20 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart. They followed this success with "On a Night Like This", another Top 20 single that solidified their place on country radio. Their sophomore effort, "On a Mission", arrived in 2002 and delivered the title track, which also became a Top 20 hit. Their third and final studio album with the original lineup, "R.I.D.E.", was released in 2005 and included the single "Just What I Do". In total, the group charted eight singles, with four reaching the Top 20.

A significant shift occurred in 2006 when Heidi Newfield departed to pursue a solo career on Curb Records, eventually releasing her debut album "What Am I Waiting For" in 2008. Trick Pony continued briefly with new lead vocalist Aubrey Collins, but the group disbanded shortly after as Collins and then Ira Dean departed by 2008. In the interim, Keith Burns formed the duo Burns & Poe with singer Michelle Poe.

The original trio of Burns, Dean, and Newfield surprised fans by reuniting in late 2013, though Ira Dean left the group again the following year. The revived lineup of Newfield and Burns carried on, releasing a new album titled "Pony Up" in 2016 via Permian Records. This project marked the final chapter of new music from the group. While no formal dissolution announcement followed, the members have since focused on their individual creative paths, leaving behind a catalog that captures a distinct and spirited era in country music.
