Tom Kaulitz is a German musician best known as the guitarist and co-founder of the pop rock band Tokio Hotel, one of the most commercially successful German bands of the modern era. Born on September 1, 1989, in Leipzig, Germany, he is the identical twin brother of Tokio Hotel's lead vocalist, Bill Kaulitz. The brothers grew up in the town of Magdeburg, and their shared passion for music laid the groundwork for a partnership that would eventually bring them international fame.

In 2001, Tom and his brother joined forces with bassist Georg Listing and drummer Gustav Schäfer to form a band. Under the name Devilish, the group recorded a demo album and initially secured a contract with Sony BMG Germany, which was later terminated. Undeterred, the quartet rebranded as Tokio Hotel and signed with Universal Music Germany. Their breakthrough arrived in 2005 with the release of their debut German-language album, Schrei, which sold more than half a million copies worldwide and produced four top-five singles in both Germany and Austria. The band's momentum continued in 2007 with the release of their second German-language album, Zimmer 483, alongside their first English-language album, Scream. Zimmer 483 spawned three top-five singles in Germany, while Scream produced singles that charted in the top twenty across new territories including France, Portugal, Spain, and Italy, signaling the group's expanding global reach.

Tokio Hotel achieved a series of historic milestones during the late 2000s and early 2010s. In September 2008, the band won the MTV Video Music Award for Best New Artist, becoming the first German band ever to win at the MTV VMAs. That same year, they also won at the MTV Video Music Awards Latin America and picked up the Headliner award at the MTV Europe Music Awards. They followed with Best Group at the 2009 MTV Europe Music Awards and Best World Stage Performance in 2010. In July 2011, they became the first German band to win at the MTV Video Music Awards Japan. Over the course of their career, Tokio Hotel has sold more than 10 million records worldwide, a testament to their enduring popularity across multiple continents.

Since 2014, Tokio Hotel has evolved artistically, shifting from pop rock and alternative rock toward electropop and synth-pop. Their most recent studio album, 2001, was released in 2022.
