Emerging from the vibrant St. Louis music scene, Story of the Year established itself as a potent force in the punk and metal-alternative landscape, achieving mainstream success in the early 2000s with their emotionally charged anthems and dynamic live performances. The band's journey began in 1995 under the name 67 North, a moniker that would evolve through several changes before solidifying into the name known to fans worldwide. After a period performing as Big Blue Monkey starting in 1998, the group officially rebranded as Story of the Year in 2002, coinciding with the release of their self-titled EP on Criterion Records.

The band's major label debut, "Page Avenue" in 2003, proved to be their commercial breakthrough, catapulting them into the spotlight with powerful singles like "Until the Day I Die" and "Anthem of Our Dying Day." The album's blend of melodic post-hardcore and raw energy resonated with a generation, defining the band's early sound and earning them a dedicated following. Their subsequent album, 2005's "In the Wake of Determination," adopted a heavier, more aggressive tone but did not replicate the chart success of its predecessor. In 2023, with the return of original bassist Adam Russell solidifying the lineup as a four-piece, Story of the Year released "Tear Me to Pieces."
