Snow Patrol is a renowned Northern Irish–Scottish rock band that has made a significant impact on the music scene since their formation in the mid-1990s. Known for their emotive lyrics and atmospheric sound, the band gained widespread acclaim, particularly for their single "Run," released in 2004, which solidified their place in the post-Britpop movement and marked a turning point in their career.

The roots of Snow Patrol trace back to 1994 in Dundee, Scotland, where they initially performed under the name Polarbear. The group released their first EP, titled Starfighter Pilot, in 1997, but after the departure of a key member, they rebranded as Snow Patrol later that same year. The lineup solidified with the addition of drummer Jonny Quinn, alongside founding member Gary Lightbody, who provided vocals and guitar. Their early works, including the albums Songs for Polarbears (1998) and When It's All Over We Still Have to Clear Up (2001), were released by independent label Jeepster Records but did not achieve commercial success.

In 2002, Snow Patrol signed with Polydor Records, welcoming Nathan Connolly as the lead guitarist. Their major-label debut, Final Straw, was released in 2003 and featured the breakout hit "Run." This single propelled them to national fame and contributed to the album's certification of 5× platinum in the UK. The band's sound and lyrical depth resonated with audiences, setting the stage for their subsequent success.

Snow Patrol's follow-up album, Eyes Open, released in 2006, further cemented their status as a leading band in the rock genre. The single "Chasing Cars" became a monumental hit, ultimately reported in 2019 as the most-played song of the 21st century on UK radio. Eyes Open topped the UK Albums Chart and was recognized as the best-selling British album of that year. The band's evolving lineup saw the departure of member McClelland in 2005, who was replaced by Paul Wilson.

The band's creative output continued with the release of A Hundred Million Suns in 2008 and Fallen Empires in 2011. Their seventh studio album, Wildness, was released in 2018, showcasing their continued evolution and commitment to their craft. In 2023, Snow Patrol experienced another lineup change with the departure of Quinn and Wilson, but this has not deterred their musical journey.

Snow Patrol has garnered numerous accolades over their career, including seven Meteor Ireland Music Awards and multiple nominations for Brit Awards and a Grammy. Collectively, their albums Final Straw, Eyes Open, and A Hundred Million Suns have sold over ten million copies worldwide, a testament to their enduring appeal and influence in the music industry. As they prepare for the release of their eighth studio album, The Forest Is the Path, scheduled for 2024, Snow Patrol remains a beloved fixture in the rock music landscape, continuing to capture the hearts of fans around the globe.
