Phantogram emerged from the small town of Greenwich, New York, as one of the most distinctive dream pop and electronic rock duos of their generation. Formed in 2007 by lifelong friends Sarah Barthel and Josh Carter, the pair crafted a signature sound that seamlessly wove together lush synth textures, hypnotic beats, and haunting vocal harmonies, drawing comparisons to acts like Portishead and M83. Their name, inspired by an optical illusion, reflected their music's ability to merge shadow and light, the organic and the electronic, into a captivating whole.
