Paulina Rubio
Paulina Rubio, born Paulina Susana Rubio Dosamantes on June 17, 1971, in Mexico City, Mexico, is a celebrated Mexican singer, songwriter, and television personality. Known as "The Golden Girl," she gained her initial fame as a member of the pop group Timbiriche from 1982 to 1991, where she showcased her vocal talents and stage presence. After departing from the group, Rubio launched a successful solo career that has established her as one of the best-selling Latin music artists of all time, with sales exceeding 15 million records.
Rubio's debut solo album, "La Chica Dorada," released in 1992, marked the beginning of her ascent in the Latin music scene. The album achieved commercial success and set the stage for her follow-up, "24 Kilates," in 1993, which solidified her standing as EMI Latin's best-selling Mexican female artist. During the mid-1990s, she shifted her musical style towards a more dance and electronic sound with albums like "El Tiempo Es Oro" (1995) and "Planeta Paulina" (1996). In addition to her music career, Rubio made her feature film debut in the romantic comedy Bésame en la Boca in 1995.
In the early 2000s, Rubio experienced a significant career resurgence with the release of her self-titled album "Paulina" in 2000, which is often regarded as one of her best works. The album garnered international acclaim and made her the best-selling Latin music artist of the Billboard Year-End in 2001. She continued her success with the crossover album "Border Girl" in 2002 and the critically acclaimed "Pau-Latina" in 2004, both of which received positive reviews and numerous nominations, including for the Grammy Award and Latin Grammy Award. Her following albums, "Ananda" (2006) and "Gran City Pop" (2009), further solidified her status in the industry, while "Brava!" (2011) showcased her venture into electronic dance music.
In addition to her music, Rubio gained further visibility as a coach on talent shows across America and Spain. She served as a coach on the second season of La Voz... Mexico in 2012 and participated in La Voz Kids in 2013, along with judging on The X Factor USA. In 2019, she returned to La Voz... España during the promotion of her eleventh studio album, "Deseo," released in 2018.
Throughout her career, Rubio has achieved significant milestones, including three number one albums on the Billboard Top Latin Albums chart and five number one singles on the US Billboard Hot Latin Songs chart, such as "Te Quise Tanto" and "Me Gustas Tanto." She has received numerous accolades, including seven Billboard Latin Music Awards, five Lo Nuestro Awards, and three MTV Latinoamerica Awards. In recognition of her influence, she was named one of the "50 Most Powerful Women in Mexico" by Forbes Mexico in 2012 and 2013.
Regarded as a pop icon, Paulina Rubio has played a pivotal role in defining the Latin pop landscape of the 2000s. Her impact on the music industry and her continued presence in entertainment have solidified her legacy as one of the most influential female artists in Latin music history.
