Lilly Wood & The Prick emerged from the Parisian music scene as a distinctive alternative pop and folk duo, achieving international recognition with their hauntingly melodic 2014 single "Prayer in C." Formed in 2006, the group consisted of Israeli-born singer-songwriter Nili Hadida and French guitarist Benjamin Cotto, who together crafted a sound that blended folk introspection with pop sensibility and electronic textures. Their name, an evocative juxtaposition of the delicate and the sharp, perfectly reflected the contrast in their music—Hadida's ethereal, plaintive vocals floating over Cotto's intricate and often prickly guitar work.

The duo built a dedicated following in France through their early independent releases, beginning with their debut EP "Lilly Wood & The Prick" in 2010. Their first full-length album, "Invincible Friends," arrived in 2011, establishing their signature style and earning critical acclaim at home. It was their second album, however, that would catapult them to global fame. The 2013 album "The Fight" contained the original version of "Prayer in C," a melancholic folk-pop track written by Hadida. The song's trajectory changed dramatically in 2014 when German DJ and producer Robin Schulz discovered it and created a deep house remix.

Robin Schulz's remix of "Prayer in C" became a worldwide phenomenon, topping the charts in over 20 countries across Europe and reaching the Top 10 in numerous others, including the United Kingdom. The track's massive success, driven by its infectious beat layered over Hadida's poignant vocals, introduced Lilly Wood & The Prick to a vast international audience and became one of the best-selling singles of 2014. This breakthrough led to performances on major global stages and a nomination for a Grammy Award for Best Remixed Recording, Non-Classical in 2015.

Following this whirlwind of success, the duo returned with their third studio album, "Shadows," in 2015. The album showcased a continued evolution of their sound, maintaining their organic core while incorporating more pronounced electronic elements. Despite their global hit being a dance remix, Lilly Wood & The Prick remained fundamentally a songwriting duo focused on crafting intimate, guitar-driven songs. After a period of activity, the duo entered an indefinite hiatus, with both Nili Hadida and Benjamin Cotto pursuing individual musical projects. Their legacy endures as a testament to the power of a compelling song, with "Prayer in C" remaining a defining track of the mid-2010s electronic pop landscape.
